Overview

The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Al-Zahraa Hospital University Medical Center (ZHUMC) offers the best possible care for neonates. We can receive 12 patients as we have 12 incubators with adequate equipment for monitoring and treatment.

Services

At ZHUMC’s NICU, we are able to take care of extremely premature infants.

We have 4 ventilators of which 2 are with high frequency ventilation; and 3 non-invasive nasal CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure), enabling us to receive neonates with respiratory distress syndrome.

Nitric oxide is readily available in ZHUMC’s NICU to provide care for patient with pulmonary hypertension.

Assisted by our Pediatrics’ Neurology professors, we can also treat neurology cases, as well as pediatric surgeries and infectious diseases in neonates.

Fellowship

As part of the residency program at ZHUMC, five residents cover our unit 24 hours a day, with two fellows in neonatology.

Our pediatric nurses at ZHUMC are an integral part of our entire care team. In the neonatal intensive care unit, we have a full team of four nurses per shift who are well trained and equipped to provide care for patients with severe problems.
